How to opt in to text messages from Civic Marketplace

Civic Marketplace is a procurement platform connecting public agencies with suppliers. Users can choose to receive text messages about quote requests and activity on their account. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages. Text messages are optional and never a condition of creating or using an account. Text notifications are delivered to US mobile numbers only.

There are three ways to opt in, all inside the Civic Marketplace web app and all using the same form and checkbox. Because they sit behind account creation, the screens are shown below exactly as users see them.

1. During sign up

A supplier starts at app.civicmarketplace.com/signup/supplier, and an agency at app.civicmarketplace.com/signup/entity, and creates an account with an email and password, or with Google or Microsoft.

Once their email is verified, which is immediate for Google and Microsoft sign up, the user is asked to verify a mobile number. Below the number field is an optional checkbox, unticked by default:

"Text me updates about quote requests and account activity from Civic Marketplace. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. This is optional and not required to create your account. See our Privacy Policy and SMS Terms."

The one time 6 digit code sent to verify the number is a security message, sent whether or not the box is ticked. Ticking the box is the only way to agree to ongoing text updates, and sign up completes either way.

2. Later, from account settings

A signed in user can opt in at any time under Manage account, Mobile number, by choosing "Add number" or "Change number". This opens the same form, with the same unticked checkbox and the same wording.

3. From the mobile number banner

A signed in user who has not yet verified a mobile number sees a banner reading "Add and verify your mobile number to secure your account". Its "Verify now" button opens the same form, with the same unticked checkbox and the same wording.

Opting out

Reply STOP to any message to stop text updates at once. END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL and OPT OUT work too. You can also turn text notifications off in your notification preferences, or email [email protected]. Stopping text updates does not stop the sign in security codes you request.
