SMS Terms

Effective date: 22 September, 2026

These SMS Terms explain how Civic Marketplace, Inc. ("Civic Marketplace", "we", "us") uses text messages (SMS) with users of the Civic Marketplace platform, including suppliers, public agency users and administrative users. They form part of our Agencies Terms and Conditions and our Suppliers Terms and Conditions. If you use the platform on behalf of an organisation, these SMS Terms apply to you personally as the holder of the mobile number.

The two types of text message we send

We send two types of text message, and they work differently:

  • Verification codes, which you need to sign in and keep your account secure.
  • Notifications, which are optional and only sent if you opt in.

We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.

Your mobile number

A valid mobile number is required to register for the platform. By providing a mobile number, you confirm that you are the user of that number, and you agree to update it promptly in your account settings if it changes or you stop using it.

You can hold a Civic Marketplace account with a mobile number from outside the United States. Text notifications are delivered to US mobile numbers only, and if your number is outside the United States you will receive these notifications by email instead.

Verification codes

We send one-time passcodes and verification codes when you sign in, reset your password, verify your mobile number, or complete an additional security check. These messages are part of the service and are necessary to access your account.

A verification code is only sent in direct response to something you have just done, such as signing in. We never send one on our own initiative. Each message contains only the code, what it is for, our name, and when it expires.

For your security: our verification code messages never contain a link. If you receive a message claiming to be a Civic Marketplace code that includes a link, do not tap it, and let us know.

Because you may need to sign in at any time, verification codes are sent whenever you request them, day or night.

Notifications

Separately, and only if you opt in, we may send you text notifications about solicitations, quotes, awards, and account activity. Opting in is a separate choice from creating your account. It is never pre-selected, and it is not required to use your account.

Notifications relate only to activity on the platform that you have asked to hear about. They may include a link to view the details on the platform, rather than the full details in the message.

You can turn notifications on or off at any time in your notification preferences.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies based on your activity.

Charges

Message and data rates may apply. Any such charges are between you and your mobile carrier.

How to stop notifications

You can stop notifications at any time by:

  • replying STOP, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL or OPT OUT to any notification;
  • replying with any message that makes clear you want to stop;
  • turning notifications off in your notification preferences; or
  • contacting our support team.

Replies such as STOP take effect immediately. Requests made in other ways are acted on promptly, and in any event within ten business days. You may receive one message confirming that you have been unsubscribed.

Stopping notifications does not stop the verification codes you request when signing in or verifying your identity, as these are required to access your account. If you do not want to receive any text messages from Civic Marketplace, please contact support to discuss your account options.

Help

Reply HELP to any message for help from our team.

Delivery

Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your information

We do not sell, rent, lease, or share mobile numbers or SMS consent data with third parties, affiliates, or lead generators for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers are shared only with the communications service providers we use to deliver messages you have requested or agreed to receive, or where required by law.

We keep a record of when you opt in or out of notifications, and the wording you were shown, so we can show what you agreed to and when. If you opt out, we keep a record so that we do not text you again. How long we keep these records is set out in our Privacy Policy at https://www.civicmarketplace.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Changes to these SMS Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date. We will not change how we use your mobile number without telling you first.
